Policies
If an item is lost or damaged by a patron there will be a replacement fee.
Items that are damaged or lost due to natural disasters shall be forgiven.
The library does not collect a per-day fine for overdue items. Due dates still apply. The library still issues reminders and notices and expects material back in a timely manner. At thirty days after the due date, items not returned or renewed are assumed lost and the borrower will be billed for their replacement.
Until those items are paid for, that borrower will be unable to check out anything else.

Privacy Policy
The Library follows state laws (RSA 201-D: 11) concerning the privacy of the library records for all patrons, including children. These laws prohibit the library from providing any information regarding a patron’s library account to ANY other person regardless of their status, identity, or age, without a subpoena, search warrant, or court order. This includes restrictions on informing parents of books checked out on their child’s library card. Mock library cards are available upon request.
Loan Periods
All items we own are loaned out for two weeks. These include: books, magazines, DVDs, audiobooks on CD, large print, and spiritual fiction. There will be a card stamped with the due date in the items you check out. Books and audiobooks do not have a check-out limit, but DVDs are limited to three per family. All overdue library items have a suggested donation of $0.10 per item per day. SILC CDs and DVDs are $1.00 per item per day.
Renewals & Reservations
You may renew items in person, by phone, email, or online through your Chesley Memorial Library account. You are allowed two renewals on your items (an additional four weeks), as long as they are not reserved for another patron.
Inter-Library Loan
If you would like an item that we do not currently own, we can try to Interlibrary Loan (I.L.L.) it from another library in the state for you. You may call us or email your I.L.L. requests to [email protected]. Items borrowed from other libraries generally take a week to a week and a half to arrive at the Chesley Memorial Library. Patrons may request up to two items per week.
OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog) Account
The OPAC Account is a free account accessible to patrons of Chesley Memorial Library. Go to: http://chesley.booksys.net/opac/cmlnh/#menuHome online. Sign in using your 14-digit library card number and your 4 character pin/password, you are able to access your patron account information (contact information, reserves, fines, check out history), and more!
Lost or Damaged Fees

Library Cards
Library cards are free if you are a resident of Northwood, pay taxes in Northwood, or you are an employee of Northwood or the Northwood Schools. Non-Resident cards can be purchased for a family price at an annual cost of $20.00. Northwood teachers are able to extend the loan time on certain items and materials upon request. There is a $5.00 replacement charge for all lost or damaged library cards. We do have a free library card month twice a year! We cannot check out items to you if your card or another form of ID is not presented.
Copy Machine
Our copy machine is available for public use. The suggested donation amount is $0.15 per page (including legal size). There is a free scan-to-email option available as well. Our copy machine is self-service, help is available if needed.
Fax Machine
The library is able to send and receive faxes for the public. The suggested donation amount is $1.00 per page within the continental U.S., and $10.00 per page for international faxes. Please inform the library staff is you plan to have a fax sent to the library.
Computer Services
The library has four public access computers with internet capabilities, as well as access to Microsoft Office programs (word, excel, power point, etc.), and printing availability (black and white only). The computers are available on a first-come-first-serve basis, and there is a 30 minute limit if there are other patrons waiting. Patrons assume agreement with our computer policies upon use of our computers. Wireless internet access (Wi-Fi) is also available within and outside of the library.
Notary Services
As a courtesy to our patrons, the library offers free notary service. It is recommended that patrons seeking notary service call the library prior to their visit to ensure that a notary is available at that time.
Other Services
The library has a variety of programs available for all ages! These include: crafts, book discussions, summer reading programs, story times, Lego club, movie nights, guest speakers, and more. The library also has access to a couple other databases such as Ancestry Library Genealogy and EBSCO Host. During tax season the library has federal tax forms available for the public. Patron Confidentiality
Patrons getting a library card need to be aware of New Hampshire library patron confidentiality laws. According to New Hampshire State Laws RSA 91-A:5 and RSA 201-D:11, the Chesley Memorial Library protects the privacy of all library users. These laws prohibit the library from giving out any information regarding a patron's library account to ANY other person regardless of their status, identity, or age, without a subpoena, search warrant, or court order.
Patron Privacy information includes, but is not limited to:
- Borrowing records- including materials currently checked out, on reserve, or on inter-library loan
- A patron's name
- A patron's address
- A patron's phone number
- Any and all reference inquiries made by a patron.
- Computer registration and log on times
- Any other information that can be personally identifiable
Further, the Library subscribes to the American Library Association's Code of Ethics. Article III states "We protect each library user's right to privacy and confidentiality with respect to information sought or received and resources consulted, borrowed, acquired or transmitted."
Volunteering
If you would like to volunteer at the library please stop by and fill out a Volunteer Application or speak to a librarian. Volunteers must be aged 14 or older. You can download a copy of the library's Volunteer Policy below. Volunteers aged 14-15 must get working papers from the SAU and all volunteers over the age of 18 must have a background check.
