IMAGINE WITH MAGIC - FOR AGES 4 +
THE MAGIC HAT BY MEM FOX
FOLLOWED WITH A WIZARD HAT AND WAND CRAFT

Making Magical Tools -
Adult supervision required

MATERIALS AND PREPARATION

Magic Wands

You will need:
• Chopsticks or sticks 8–14” long
• Hot glue gun and glue sticks
• Non-toxic washable paint and paintbrushes
• Paper plates

Decorate the ends of the sticks with hot glue for texture. After the glue
dries, the wands are ready for painting!

Witch/Wizard Hats
You will need:
• Construction paper and scissors
• Moon/star cutouts or stickers
• A pencil
• A ruler
• Scotch tape
• A compass (optional)

Draw (or trace) a semi-circle onto construction paper with a 9–11” radius.
For the hat's brim, cut rings 2–3” wide out of construction paper.
To decorate the hat - Cut out moons and stars, or buy stickers.

After children cut out the semi-circles, show them how to form a cone by
bringing the two ends together. Adjust each cone for a proper fit. The cones will need to be a little wider if brims will be added. Staple
the seams at the base of the cone and tape the rest of the seam.
Children can decorate their hats with moons and stars as desired.
What kind of animal would you like to turn into if you had a real magic hat and wand?

IMAGINE IF YOU WERE A DETECTIVE!!

Crime Scene Investigator Project: Fingerprint database

Supplies: pencil, pencil sharpener, scrap paper, scotch tape, your fingers

Procedure: Using a freshly sharpened pencil, color a dark splotch on a piece of scrap paper. Rub your finger on the pencil splotch. Using a piece of tape, "lift" the print off of your finger. Place it on your database sheet. You can create a fingerprint database for the whole household!

The science: As we all know, everyone's fingerprint patterns are different. The skin on the fingertips is ridged, which creates a specific pattern that can be left behind on certain surfaces. There are three main types of fingerprint patterns- loops, whorls and arches. Once you have created your database, you can compare the prints for these patterns.
FINGERPRINT ACTIVITY

Spot the Differences

Look at the 4 different pictures. Each has 4 pictures that look just like them, but one is different! Find and Circle the one that does not look like the rest.
