September OPEN HOUSE
The Chesley Memorial Library hosted an Open House on Saturday, September 19, from 10:00-1:00 p.m. We started the morning with a delicious breakfast for our staff. All the food was wonderful and the chance to get all the librarians and trustees together was a real treat for all.
The Open House was a great success. We had patrons stopping in to enjoy cider and treats. Some renewed their library cards while others got their first library card. We shared stories of how the library had begun and discussed what we hoped it would become. It all went well, Thank you for your support! |

from the BEAN HOLE BASH - July 24 & 25
|
The 2015 Bean Hole Bash was a fun event this year. The Library had an Informational Table, a craft table and joined the Recreation Team in making the Touch A Truck happen.
Kids had their pictures taken at the Touch A Truck, then made picture frames to put those pictures in. If your picture was taken and you'd like a copy, please come to the library to let us know and to identify your photos. Thank you to all the staff volunteers who made this event possible this year. |

Humor & Harmony
at the Masonic Hall
with Rebecca Rule and Cordwood
|
The Chesley Memorial Library and the Friends of the Northwood Libraries sponsored "Humor & Harmony” featuring Rebecca Rule and Cordwood. They entertained a crowd of over 80 people at the Masonic Hall on Route 4 in Northwood on Saturday, May 9, from 7:00-9:00 p.m.
Rebecca Rule, aka the Moose of Humor, is a humorist/writer who specializes in funny stories about New Hampshire. Rebecca Rule gathers and tells stories and she'll be telling some of her funniest ones for Humor and Harmony. Her latest book (and first picture book for children) is The Iciest,Diciest, Scariest Sled Ride Ever, illustrated by Jennifer Thermes. Other books include: Moved and Seconded: NH Town Meeting and Could Have Been Worse: True Stories, Embellishments, and Outright Lies. She hosts Our Hometown, on NHPTV. Cordwood is a bluegrass and folk quartet made up of instrumental, vocal, and recording artists from Northwood, Strafford, and Deerfield. This is not your local neighborhood hobby band. They are a fine group of seasoned New England musicians. Each can hold his or her own at field picking or a back stage jam, and yet, as a band, they present a highly polished on-stage performance. All four members of Cordwood are storytellers and songwriters, creating original material for instrumentalists who can sing and harmonize, sometimes taking the lead vocal, other times hanging back and lending two, three, or even four part harmonies to a song. Cordwood provides a unique sound to both originals and the covers they perform. Their tunes remain heartfelt and down-home. The band’s material is a mixture of traditional bluegrass, folk, and swing. Cordwood is Wini Young on banjo and guitar, Walt Kutylowski on bass, Al Pratt on guitar, and Bob Young on mandolin, names you may remember from Big Chicken, The Deerfield Coffeehouse Band, and Fat Hands. |

Saturday, Mar. 14, 1:00 - 3:00 p.m Discover your family roots! The Chesley Memorial Library will hold a basic genealogy workshop led by David Ramsey on Saturday, March 14, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Spend an hour or two learning the basics of genealogy through Ancestry Library Edition. Participants will learn how to use the Ancestry programs to find information about their parents and grandparents. Please bring any information you have about your relatives…births, deaths, and marriages all help to narrow down a search. It’s fun to discover who came before us! “Where did previous generations come from? How did they live? What did they fight for? And how did their lives affect yours? Historical records and photos hold so many answers about the fascinating people in history. Ancestry Library Edition puts them at your fingertips, enabling both research and inviting critical thinking. Ancestry Library Edition provides access to billions of historical documents, millions of historical photos, plus local narratives, oral histories, indexes and other resources in over 30,000 databases that span from the 1500s to the 2000s.” The Chesley Memorial Library once again has access to Ancestry Library Edition thanks to the Friends of the Northwood Libraries. Join us for the basic genealogy workshop or stop in and use one of our public access computers to start your genealogy search today. |
